Is it You, or is it Them?

September 12, 2023

Today, it can be very important for a business to have an accurate idea of where the problem lies when there is some sort of Internet issue. Some businesses have a staff person that is available to get to the bottom of problems right away. Not all of us are that lucky.

It could be the Internet connection and that means the right place to start is the Internet provider. It could be the service you are relying on for telephone, POS, or other services. Calling the wrong place at the very least gets you nowhere. Some providers expect their customers to do a great deal of diagnosing on their own, so they aren’t calling about problems that are somewhere else.

The basic question when there is some sort of connectivity problem is if the problem is with the service provider, the Internet provider, or your own IT equipment. If you have an on-staff IT person, they may know what the problem is, but many small businesses rely on a contractor to provide IT services. That may require paying for both time and travel to your location to identify the problem.

With telephone and POS services being provided over the Internet today, it can also be a customer service issue. How do your front-line employees know if there is a problem and something you rely on doesn’t work? Even more important, how do they know when service is working again?

VIC is here to help! A new product from Infinadyne is called VIC Monitor. While it technically stands for Vital Internet Connection, we have this image of a guy that can help you in your time of need. This product is a notification tool for anyone to be able to run on their computer. It is invisible when running and does not depend on the user to do anything. It can send email when a problem is detected, and it can utilize one or more indicator lights to display when something is wrong.

In any customer-facing business it can be important for customers to be able to see something visible when they are told some part of the POS system is not working. For instances, not being able to accept credit cards. Having a clerk explain that something is wrong, but they don’t know what it is, isn’t ideal. Having a red light that shows up can be helpful. Even more helpful, when the problem is resolved having that red light go out or turn green is even more helpful. It eliminates the “oh, we’re having problems” when the problem has been resolved.

VIC Monitor can also inform people about issues via email. The email messages are not technical in nature but are designed to be informative about what the problem is. Email can be sent to anyone desired, and it comes from any email account you desire.

VIC Monitor is available now from Infinadyne and it can answer a lot of questions. Infinadyne can provide assistance in setting up VIC Monitor or we can work with your IT support.
